  1. Pack the right clothing and equipment for the trip – Add to your luggage light clothing and airy as this will not only reduce the risk of sweating in the heat but also easier to dry if caught in showers. Bring a small compact camera over a large bulky one ideally it should fit somewhere secure on your clothing to keep with you. Remember to bring a hat or buy one when in Cebu as the risk of getting sunburn especially if your not used to the climate is very high. Pack suncream as well as insect repellent. Clothing and shoes are cheap in the Philippines although often they do shrink and many sizes aren’t stocked at most retailers something to be aware of.
  2. Arrange accommodation – This can be done in advance or if your like the UK that doesn’t seem to have anything on the Philippines in most tour operators brochures (infact many don’t have any brochures at all) you can book into a hotel on arrival. Generally you will find hotels are littered all over Cebu and many are almost always empty. Be warned though at peak times of the year they do fill up fast as well as price rises especially around Holy Week in Cebu. But generally head out of the city a little you will always find accommodation at reasonable rates.
  3. Research the locations of historic sites online in advance – There is plenty of history to see in Cebu but often its not well advertised and difficult to find. Research in advance you will know where to go and what to expect as there are many sites to see including Fort San Pedro, The Basilica, Sugbo museum to name but a few.
  4. Enjoy the beaches of Cebu – Be aware the best beaches are generally within resort areas that may expect an entrance fee or a “cottage hire” to allow you access. But there are some fantastic beaches here as well as many water sports and other things to enjoy on a nice relaxing sandy beach in Cebu.
  5. Enjoy Cebu nightlife – There are over 1000 restaurants in Cebu, comedy clubs, discos and themed shows to enjoy. Pretty much something for everyone who comes to Cebu to enjoy the tourism of the nightlife.
  6. Enjoy the sporting activities of Cebu – Many things exist in Cebu for entertainment sporting wise from kart racing to jetski and scuba diving. Research in advance where to go mind as often they are not well advertised and the internet may be the best source of finding things as well as your hotel lobby.
  7. Visit the market areas – to buy your souviners plenty of hand made guitars that Cebu is famous for as well as trinkets and jewellery at very low prices.
  8. Try new foods and enjoy some of the local people - Filipinos by nature are very friendly people and proud that your visiting their country. They will often try to befriend you as they love to have foreign friends.
  9. Try a massage or two – massages are very cheap here as well as very easy to find a parlour, something I myself hadn’t experienced until I came to the Philippines but an ideal way to relax and unwind after a busy day.
  10. Visit a dentist – While here you will find dentists are extremely cheap and I am surprised more people aren’t dental tourists as getting even major work done is a fraction of the cost it would be in the West.
