It amazes me the amount of things available in and around Cebu to do yet most are poorly marketed to the masses. Everything from sports for “doing” to large international events don’t seem to get enough publicity. Then with the resorts you have water parks, cable rides and even some amusement parks as well as aquariums and Crocodile land scattered yet do you know where to find them?
That’s the odd thing when planning a trip here as its more important to scour blogs than anything else looking at peoples photos to find out where they have been in Cebu to get an idea of what to go and see and what to avoid. I found the butterfly sanctuary in Tubod a bit of a joke since they have changed it to something more inline with a persons pet collection and the only butterflies seem to be pinned in picture frames in the entrance. Yet there are underwater walks and even searching for things like the waterfalls around Cebu island are not so obvious to find. A prime example of that is people being aware of the large one yet you have to trek upto it but a lot closer is one you can get to walking off the road most people haven’t heard of.
So how do you work out what to get out of life if living here or on a trip?
First thing is to list down what things you would like to do or things you like seeing. Then start Google searching with terms such as waterfall Cebu, basketball Cebu, tourist attractions Cebu, etc. to find out if things exist online already for the things your looking for. If your coming here on vacation/holiday one thing I will say for Koreans and Japanese is don’t trust your tour operators when they say everything is dangerous outside the resort because guess what I have never lived in a resort and never plan to. The reason they make this paranoia stigma is down to guaranteeing you spend all your money with them, fancy a boat trip get a quote from them and then wander down to the Jetty near the Shangri-la and ask for a quote. Like most things there are multiple prices depending on race, colour of skin and nationality more than anything else. If your looking for an easy holiday without the hassles though you may prefer sticking to your tour operator to deal with everything for you. But often you will miss a lot of the things that aren’t on the tourist map which are still well worth the visit.
