Saging (Banana in Cebuano) – Sustainable development food

Saging (Bananas) Cebuano Banana has to be the weed of the Philippines as literally it can grow itself without any interference once the first plant is planted. You generally harvest the bananas then cut down the plant it grew from and already by then the next plants have already started growing so the cycle of growing bananas couldn’t get more simple as beyond that we do nothing except eat or sell them. These are a basket full being sold at our sari-sari (corner shop). Checking the varieties if you decide to grow them yourself will pay off as some need to be boiled before eating where others are eaten in the same way we do in the West by just peeling. One of the good things about the bananas though is they also don’t need a lot of space I have seen them being grown in the oddest of places.
