Rob Dropped By With Some Neem Leaves

IMG_0222

One of our friends dropped by with Neem leaves and seeds as one of the ideas Rob has been working on involved using Neem leaves for a mosquito repellent which does actually work and tonight we burned some leaves on a small wood hob at the sari-sari as the wet weather has been causing a bit of a mosquito problem at night. So far no bites and pretty much not seen any mosquitoes tonight.

Our friends Rob and Des will be heading off to the UK shortly as all the paperwork has now been finalised and arrived nothing stopping the long haul flight to the UK. So just sorting things out before they go which was the main reason Rob came over to get the home PC that is being left behind for the family to help them keep in touch with Des needed a complete format and fresh installs as well as making sure it was deep frozen to keep maleware and viruses off the machine. Its good to see things clicking into place as many people assume getting a visa is just a short deal and a couple of meetings its took around 6 months for everything to be completed and something people should be aware of if entering into a long-term relationship that your going to have to either stay until its all sorted or some long skype calls at night to keep in touch.

The neem leaves by the way seem to have a fair bit of oil in them which is something we will be looking to extract as its this that upsets the mosquitoes and acts as a mosquito repellent. Little bit irritating that people aren’t using them more in the neighbourhood to help cut down on the mosquito numbers but will see how it goes as it could pay to be growing them and making candles with the oil to sell at the sari-sari as a small business idea.

I wonder if there’s a local branch of TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) anywhere near you…they might have a course on how to extract essential oils from plants?

Also, just throwing it out there for you – was wondering if citronella (also used to ward off mosquitos) could work as a blend with neem oil, then you could heat some in an aromatherapy oil burner to keep the nasties away.

    Good luck!

Good idea and will look into it this week. I can head into the city as well as I also want to grab some plants from some of the government organisations but want information on the best soil conditions etc. while there. Will update with more information once I get more info.

Thanks for the interested in Neem 🙂
