Piano Concert in support of Street Children of Cebu Dec 5th 2009

A Piano Concert by Matan Porat for Street Kids of Cebu, Omnilogy, Inc. (www.omnilogyinc.org) in cooperation with the Arts Council of Cebu, Cebu Music Learning Center, YMCA Cebu, Rotary Club of Talisay and Peace Philharmonic Philippines will be hosting a classical music benefit concert entitled "ONE HUMANITY: THE TIE THAT BINDS CULTURES TOGETHER— A Christmas Tribute by Matan Porat" to be held in the Marcelo B. Fernan Press Center, on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 8:00 PM.

Regarded as a musician of great insight and sensitivity, Israel-born pianist and composer, Matan Porat has appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Irish National Symphony Orchestra, and Israel Chamber and Symphony Orchestras with such conductors as James Conlon, Lawrence Foster and Mendi Rodan, and has performed in several important venues, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, Alhambra’s Palacio Carlos V, and in the Irish National Concert Hall.
An avid chamber music player, he has also participated in many distinguished festivals,including Marlboro, Ravinia, Verbier, Bath, the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, and upon invitation of Daniel Barenboim in the West-Eastern Divan workshops. Other chamber appearances include performances with the Ysaÿe and Jerusalem Quartets, Kim Kashkashian, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Mathieu Dufour, Emmanuel Pahud and David Soyer. A top prize winner in the 2003 Dublin International Piano Competition, he has also won the Artist of Special Promise prize at the 2003 Honens Competition in Canada, and the Legion d’Honneur award in Switzerland.
Since 1995, he has been a recipient of the America-Israel Foundation scholarships and a 2007/8 recipient of the prestigious Wingate grant. His varied concert program includes Bach’s Goldberg Variations, the 6 Partitas, and Ives’ "Concord" Sonata. A passionate contemporary music performer, Matan Porat has premiered works by Gideon Lewensohn, Kelly Marie Murphy, and Jonathan Keren, among others.
Matan Porat began his piano studies with Emanuel Krasovsky at the Tel-Aviv Rubin Academy. Later he became artist-inresidence in Belgais, Portugal, studying and assisting Maria João Pires, and obtained his Master’s degree from The Juilliard School with Joseph Kalichstein. He has also worked with Emanuel Ax, Daniel Barenboim, Dmitri Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, Menahem Pressler, András Schi, Mitsuko Uchida and Alexis Weissenberg.
In the past two years Porat has been working extensively with pianist Murray Perahia in London. Matan Porat has studied composition with André Hajdu, Ruben Seroussi and George Benjamin. His works were commissioned
by Maria João Pires, Kim Kashkashian, Elena Bashkirova and the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, the AICF’s Spring Competitions and others, and were premiered at the Montpellier, Schleswig- Holstein and Menuhin Gstaad festivals for general acclaim. His opera, "Animal Farm", was commissioned by the Tel-Aviv Academy and was performed last season. His work "KofAdam", based on Kafka’s "A report to an academy" for an actor and ensemble is being performed at the Israeli Cameri theatre this season with Itay Tiran.
This concert is part of the Bridging the Gap series, which aims to bridge the gap across and between cultures one city at a time. The series promotes One Humanity: a collective environment of shared aspirations. Omnilogy’s mission is to increase patronage of arts and culture in Cebu City. The primary aim of Omnilogy Inc. is to promote international understanding and communication between societies through the arts. The promotion of philanthropy and volunteerism in the community is an essential part of Omnilogy’s success. Omnilogy aims to create at least 1000 philanthropists in the Philippines by 2015.
