Philippines Navy Receives New Warship – BRP Gregorio del Pilar

BRP Gregorio del Pilar formally known as USCGC Hamilton (WHEC-715)

The Philippines is currently strengthening its naval fleet and the first part of that is the purchase of BRP Gregorio del Pilar formally known as USCGC Hamilton (WHEC-715) a retired coastguard Hamilton class cutter. Its arrival took 33 days from the U.S. docking at South Harbour upon arrival in Manila. Now the pride of the Philippines navy as well as its largest vessel the 1965 vessel may have come from the coastguard in the U.S. but it has also seen action in the Vietnam war as well as having a colourful history. Designed to take a crew of 173 comfortably its also seen a modernisation program in 1988 to update its equipment.
