Philippines gossip

One thing that I find a bit over the top in the Philippines is the amount of gossip that can spread from the smallest thing into a completely different story and the fact that that peoples get out clause will always be they heard it from someone else.. no doubt can’t remember who it was either but its a big problem as it leaks into things that it shouldn’t do. An example of it not doing any harm was the accident I recently had very few people seen me get back in the morning after the accident but I arrived fairly bloody and in bad shape. I just went home had a shower and rested. A week later my wife mentioned that I had had some sort of vehicle accident when I was out bird hunting according to some neighbours as the story had spread throughout the neighbourhood about as far from the truth as possible. At the same time what actually happened wasn’t anyone’s business so left them to come up with their wild fairytale stories.

But then it gets into other things that cause damage and one of the worst for gossip here in the Philippines is the media which have speculated and twisted things like the recent child murder in Minglanilla for rankings yet even though most of what they are spreading via radio, newspapers and televisions are either hearsay or what seems to be made up nobody sues or makes an apology for such lies. Problem with this is it blurs the facts which can and does hinder police investigations as wide speculation confuses people to what really happened and the events of the case. An example of burring is the pool day yesterday when my mother in-law was talking to the resort owner. There is an adjoining school to the resort where the resort owner told my mother in-law that the sketches released by the PNP were actually wrong and she had seen the foreigner looking at children at the school before and they didn’t look anything like the sketches. Is she right or wrong? Why didn’t she report it to the PNP is this just another typical example of Chiz miz (not sure of spelling!) but locally means juicy gossip. But lets face it the entire media encourage it with all the speculative stuff they put out about celebrities having affairs, arguments etc.. but conveniently its timed with their latest TV show or movie.. wow who would have thought a lot of these so called disputes are fake.. Just wish it didn’t leak into real life and even more so Police investigations.
