Old fort Santiago - WWII, Manila, Philippines 1945

The ruins of Old Fort Santiago resulted in the battle for liberation during the Japanese occupation of World War 2,Manila, Philippines. The fort was used by the Japanese to torture and execute Filipino freedom fighters. Many were kept in the dungeons and the lower levels were affected by the tide for which drowning was very common.

The fort was destroyed during heavy bombing of Manila in 1945 but it was later restored under the Intramuros Administration during the 1980’s.
