Obligations V Choices

Obligations and choices in the Philippines are often mixed together on purpose. People push their responsibilities as your obligations, when in fact it’s your choice. For example, a relative is sick this isn’t your obligation it’s your choice they aren’t your relative and it’s not your fault they didn’t get medical insurance. Looking after your wife and kids is your obligation beyond that it’s simply a choice and yes it may create arguments sometimes. It’s the reality because you earned your money, you worked to make it happen. You are not trying to make yourself the saviour or the fool of the family. Especially when many of the people there with a hand out wouldn’t think twice on doing nothing for you.
