Mayor’s Shooting Contest Minglanilla

Bit of a rush article as I received an invite to go to the 2 day shooting contest a bit late in the day. Its the Mayor of Minglanilla’s cup but haven’t got much more information to give except for that (although to be honest the contest is on its 2nd day and finishes in a few hours so too late to go!).

Anyway got an invite to enter into the contest by my wife’s uncle but haven’t had any time to practice or get organised for the event so the only shooting going on from me today was with a camera. One thing I would say though if your into shooting or looking to get into it there are shooting clubs all over the place in the Philippines. Although a foreigner can’t own a gun there is nothing stopping your wife being an owner of a firearm.

As always at any event there is always a bbq pig being readied up for dinner after a contest or for lunch. Not for me mind as I don’t eat pork which is the national dish in the Philippines as you won’t find an occassion without it. Have yet to meet a vegetarian either which may be the only people that seem to not eat pork besides me.

On route up to the event wasn’t 100% where it was I was just aware it was near “Tubod flowing waters” a local resort in Minglanilla. A bit of roaming around which seen the local gay community playing badminton screaming in excitement as I went passed on my scooter trying to locate the event. If you ever need to find the shooting range near Tubod, Minglanilla though just go past the resort and take the next right as you cross a bridge. Its a fairly steep hill and as you go up the hill the next thing you will see is a valley down on the right with a very rough road. Head down that and the field you can see is the parking area. It was here I met my scooter watchers some local kids asking me lots of questions and escorting me to “London Bridge” as they called it to cross into the range area.

Couldn’t stop long but was good to bump into Aprils uncle as I haven’t seen him for a while as he’s been busy in another region of the Philippines (he’s a PNP Colonel). I had to get back for another function today (1 of 3) but wish I could have stopped a bit longer to see how the tournament developed, Maybe compete next year time will tell.
