During the warming up leg in Mexico for the upcoming boxing match between Pacquiao and Marquez a bit of a surprise revelation with Manny Pacquiao saying he is eying to run for Vice President in the 2016 Philippines elections.

Looks like retirement is on its way and it makes sense to quit at the top with years of sponsorships still in tow and the millions already earned from his other matches and titles.

Before going for the vice president post though he will be campaigning for the Governor post in his local province Sarangani, Mindanao.

For people outside of the Philippines wondering if a boxer can do it the Philippines is well known for celebrities and local film stars retiring into political roles for the country. Not only that President Erap was ousted and on house arrest before being released by Arroyo who was president at the time but even he still managed to get millions of votes in the last Philippines election even though he had been disgraced. So Manny has as good a shot as anyone if not better simply because people know him which is enough for votes. I have never heard of a politician being voted in on merit or ability its more to do with legacy of family involvement in politics as well as the fact “killings” between political rivals puts most people off.

Hinting he is going to retire from boxing, Pacquiao said in an interview aired on dzBB: "Come 2016 I am going to run for vice president… no more boxing at that time."

The report also Quoted Pacquiao as saying that before running for the vice presidency he will try first running for governor in Sarangani province in Mindanao.
