You cant visit Cebu without visiting Magellans cross. Not only for the historical fact of the location being the same location that on April 14th 1521. The first cross was errected and first Christian mass took place aswell as the Philippines being taken in the name of Christ by Magellan but its also a beautiful building to look at. The Kiosk was errected in 1834 to house the cross and the current cross you see is not the original cross but its case. Made from Tindalo Wood (Bayong). This wasnt just built to protect the original cross from the elements. But also that many people believed it had magical powers and would chip a piece from the original cross if it was accessible.
Also at the same site is Basilica Minore Del Sto. Nino which was built in 1565 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Fr. Andres de Urdaneta which houses one of the most important and oldest relics in the Philippines aswell as the most celebrated “Senor Sto. Nino de Cebu (the infant Jesus) It was originally a gift given from Magellan to Queen Juana on her baptism on April 21st 1521. In the 3rd week of January Sinulog festival celebrates the artifact.
