LinC and WelcomeToThePhilippines

welcometothephilippines

Although Living in Cebu has been around for sometime the format is very similar to Welcome to the Philippines. They are both using the same forum software although in different layouts. Many of the users overlap between the two sites and a lot of the topics overlap. Although I believe the LivingInCebu is more American in feel and members. Where as Welcome to the Philippines has a more mixed expat community.

Personally I am moving away from the forums because the information has become stagnant with the same questions asked by new people and replied by the same regular members ( on LinC cant say the same about Welcome to the Philippines as I haven’t used it much). After about a year there isn’t enough new material to keep me interested and there is a lot of information that is misleading. So simply I have just stopped using them. Not saying don’t use the forums just saying take things with a pinch of salt.

    Hi Mr Lee,
its not a personal attack on forums as like you say they do serve a purpose. But like im saying after 6 months it becomes old news and some of the information is misguided and trying to correct people who are wrong becomes a constant battle rather than someone saying “your right” or “the info I have is a little out of date compared to yours”. I dont mind helping people infact thats why this blog exists but I stopped using the forums because it gets to the point there is no need for me to be there. I have made a few good friends off the forums like yourself and it is definitly an area the forums need to develop. But I do meet up with some of the guys from time to time myself. Although do lack spare time a lot of the time as I have a lot of things going on in the background.

As an expat that has lived in the Philippines for several years i can relate to the idea of some of the long standing Philippine sites as being well worn at times . That’s just the nature of the beast i guess as so many new folks come seeking the same type of info .

But i still read certain group forums just to stay in touch with some of the members and to know what might be going on locally . As for keeping cost information current that is a problem on any site since things change so quickly .

In the end living conditions are only relative to how you wish to live and can afford of course . I know guys happy living in 3,500p a month houses and guys that have to pay 30,000p + to be happy so each to his own .

Hope that you will still be able to post despite all of your different activities and interests as you have certainly been a Godsend in assisting me in setting up my Blog . And besides , i enjoy hearing views from across the pond . πŸ™‚

Best of Luck , Matt in whatever you do .
