You will come across this very often where people will assume they can just find a job as if looking for one in their home country. Firstly the laws restrict and often won’t allow you to work if your not here on the correct visa or married to a Filipina.
Secondary there are a lot of Foreigners already here that struggle to find work in the first place. The difference is here is many people simply don’t want you, there are graduate Filipinos who are bilingual and understand the methods of working locally as well as will work for a lot less than you would think. Generally most workers in Cebu are on around P6,000 – P8,000 a month for a bank manager most are on less than P20,000 and a police colonel around P40,000 so the first question I would ask is why would you want to be earning such a low salary in comparison to where you are now?
The majority of Expats here are either on a pension or involved with a small business. You do get the English teachers and hotel managers, workers of international companies but they are few and far between. It may seem a bleak picture but its actually just to say save money where you are now its easier to achieve and will go further when you get here. If you prepare well you can get things setup here for a sustainable lifestyle although may need to do several trips to make it a permanent thing. Either way its going to be a bumpy ride so I advise researching heavily first and maybe do a few trips to get a feel for the options available to you.
