Karla Henry – Miss Earth 2008
If there’s one thing we Filipinos are known for all over the world, it is Beauty – And one Filipina made sure everyone on Earth knows about it. This beauty’s name is Karla Henry.
Filipino-Canadian Karla Paula Ginteroy Henry (born 1986 in Cebu, Philippines) is just 21 years old when she became “Miss Earth” after she won the pageant (against 85 delegates from all over the world) last November 9 2008 at the Clark Expo Amphitheater in Angeles City, Pampanga.
It was certainly a close competition but she proved to the world she was the girl that day when she won over 3 of the most beautiful and equally deserving ladies in the competition: Miriam Odemba (Miss Tanzania) as Miss Earth-Air (1st runner-up), Abigail Elizalde (Miss Mexico) as Miss Earth-Water (2nd runner-up), Tatiane Alves (Miss Brazil) as Miss Earth-Fire (3rd runner-up).
If you can still remember, Karla Henry was one of the better contestants who did not make it to the finals of Binibining Pilipinas 2008. The same competition where the very controversial (and blogged about) Jenina San Miguel bagged the most coveted title of Bb. Pilipinas-Universe.
- Miss Cebu 2007(2nd Runner-up)
- Binibining Pilipinas 2008 (Semi-finalist)
- Miss Philippines Earth 2008 (Winner)
- Miss Earth 2008 (Winner)
She also won Miss Photogenic and Miss Earth Designers Award on the same competition.
For a Filipina, winning the “Miss Earth” was a first time. And for that same reason, she knew she made us proud by bringing the country to the worlds attention once again.
Now she can join the names of: Gemma Cruz-Miss International 1964, Gloria Diaz-Miss Universe 1969, Aurora Pijuan-Miss International 1970, Margie Moran-Miss Universe 1973, Melanie Marquez-Miss International 1979, Ines Zaragozsa-Miss Asia Pacific Quest 1982, Bong Dimayacyac-Miss Asia Pacific Quest 1983, Lorna Legaspi-Miss Asia Pacific Quest 1989, Michelle Aldana-Miss Asia Pacific Quest 1993, Precious Lara Quigaman-Miss International 2005
Despite coming short in the previous competitions that she joined, she still showed to everyone that if every girl can dream, they can make those dreams come true too.
A Beauty. An example. Miss Earth. Karla Henry.
