First Birthdays are always a big thing in the Philippines
Ewe’s party today was a bit of a big event with a lot of people over. I’m not sure the relevance of the first birthday over other years as parties seem to tailor off into smaller events after the first birthday party. But anyway Ewe hit his first milestone this week, great watching him develop something I wouldn’t see as much if in the UK due to the work and commute issues in the UK.
April has been working on this party for some time especially on getting everything together and glad to see it all went well and everyone had a good time. April made several birthday cakes for the party as well as many other dishes. On top of that we also had 5 other people doing various cooking to help with the food for the party.
The other strange thing about birthdays in the Philippines is that you normally give gifts to the guests when they leave. Something I am not used to as normally in the UK people bring you gifts as your organising the party and its your birthday.
The urn on the last photo is what is known locally as “dirty ice cream” the dirty reference is not actually in the food but because its normally sold by vendors along the road. Aprils mother hired the ice cream and it was a hit with the kids didn’t take long to disappear!
