It was 4 years ago that I came to meet April this month and so far I ended up at the Tops the same time I had been there originally with April but also passed along the Northwinds hotel where we stayed for our honeymoon. Yesterday though we headed off to AA BBQ where we had dinner many moons ago for a bit of an anniversary meal which was a very rare occasion of just the two of us alone.
AA BBQ is a bit of a success story and you will find them all over Cebu. Its mixed traditional design with budget dining to create a restaurant people are happy to use but also somewhere you can have business meetings and christenings, birthdays etc. They have private suites available at no extra charge which have air conditioning which suits meetings pretty well. There is also plenty of parking at the restaurants which is another key feature to their success.
Aprils looking at me waiting for me to come over and order what I want. I have been trying to get a good photo of the restaurant for some time as we are either passing without a camera (or at the restaurant without one) or its blurred because I am moving at the same time. Lucky enough today is a bit different, lighting is good and we also have a couple of hours available for eating.
When you arrive at AA BBQ you get to pick what you want from the seafood that is packed in ice. Just grab some tongs and pull out the bits and pieces you want to eat, can’t be anymore simple but also means you know its fresh.
For those wanting meat dishes Sisig (which is quite spicy mainly made up of things like a pigs face) is available as well as chicken and other dishes that are on the various menu boards.
April grabbing our squid for Calamari one of my favourite dishes at AA BBQ but its not as tasty as it used to be and generally on take out you will find it a bit dry and crispy by the time you get home. Its a dish you have to eat when fresh.
Orders in and now time to sit and wait, time to mess around with the camera and stick it on timer so we can get a photo together.
The scallops cooked in butter are a great dish only problem is the portions disappear to quickly. Its definetely moreish.
Pork belly a favourite of Aprils and on an anniversary can’t refuse pork on the table (i just don’t eat it).
This is squid cooked with onions and peppers, little greasy but tasted great the excess oil also toned down the peppers.
Calamari (Squid) which is worth having a mix of dips we normally have the traditional vinegar styled dip with crushed birds eye chilli to give it a bit of a punch. At the same time also have a sweet and sour sauce for half of the dish as well. Nice to pick and mix.
Great to get out just the two of us especially with the upcoming move to the UK which will keep us apart for months while everything gets processed. The last photo is the first time we went to AA BBQ in Sept 2007.
