An important day in the Philippines for families although very different to many festivals you may come across. All saints day is a non working holiday in the Philippines where families will return to their provinces to remember the dead. This is often done by cleaning and repairing the deceased tombs and paying respect to the dead. This can involve spending the night at the graveside, I know when my wife first told me about it I was a bit surprised. But then as time goes on you find people even living in the tombs in some areas of the Philippines for various reasons such as homelessness.
The connection between the living and the dead with the all saints day though I do think is an important one that could actually benefit other cultures and societies to keep bonds within families alive.
