A British business man was murdered in Sipalay City, Dumaguete, Philippines in an alleged robbery.

Anthony Nicolas who owned and operated the “Hi Joe” Beach resort as well as a market stall and pension house which is known as “Matlag Farm house” in Sipalay City. Had finished his collection for the day and was on route home on a tricycle with his wife and helper when two gunmen waylaid them before opening fire. Anthony Nicolas received multiple bullet wounds to his head and various parts of his body and declared dead on arrival at Sipalay Infirmary.

Its believed the attackers motive was robbery as once they had fired the shots they then left with money believed to be the days takings from the various businesses.

Anthony Nicolas leaves behind three children and currently the only witnesses to the crime were the wife and helper who are currently unable to help with Police enquires due to being in shock.

These deadly attacks on Expats can be read in the news more and more frequently…

With more of us Expats arriving here in the Philippines it seems that we became a “quality” target in that kind of “business”…

?2 Brits murdered in about 3 days. If there was just one Filipino murdered in the UK they would be screaming like hell about it.

its not just that reading regarding the sailor in Manila being pushed as “love triangle” bull as usual.. if you go to the Daily record newspaper you will find several of his relatives saying its lies and completely fabricated by media etc. something else happened but no doubt the “love triangle” is an easy one for the Police and media to mop up than actually investigate the case properly.

The fact that his wallet was missing seems to point to more than a love triangle. It looks more like a planned robbery that went wrong and knowing the Scottish I’m guessing the girl got stabbed because he put up a fight and maybe pulled her in front of himself for defence.

basic mistake here as carrying the tays takeings one thing i think any of us who try to do busienss here is never never never carry large sums of money keep the cash in the bank. The botton line is its hard to spot this kinda crime happening at people are desperate and guns are easy to get hold of here. I am sure we will hear more of these kind of killings as long as there are white people comeing here, the government dont really care unles it becomes internatinoal news and will stop investment here. We all know its about money if there is enough money at state the government will get serious about sorting this stuff out and reduceing the number of killings.

I used to hunt a lot in the USA. Would really enjoy going out and hunting prime target deer with large antlers ( Expat business man in PI.) But I knew none of those deer had a 30.06. Now If i ever seen one of those carrying a 30.06, i would have really thought twice about hunting them.. Hope someone gets my story.. sorry Andrew, you can yell at me later…. lol ha ha ha ha..

Philip I love how you Americans still think that system works despite the fact 80 Americans die everyday from guns.
Andrew The problem is if you carry large sums of money or not just because of the colour of your skin, they think you carry large amounts of money. I would say the mistake he made was having a routine, they knew when and where he travelled.

thing is being invisible as much as possible.. everyone here is involved in some form of business. But doesn’t mean its going to stop it happening as an expat i know was being poisoned by his mother inlaw over several months until she stupidly went to her daughter for help in killing him. At which point she told her husband and they kicked the hag out of the home.. living free with an allowance wasn’t enough she wanted the bank balance. Joke was on her though if he had died purely because the money would stop as soon as his heart did because he had no pension and his businesses were purely online.

Well fellas, i respect I am a so called visitor here, and this is not my country. But it is my home, and I am a human being, and if i have to plan a different way to go out everyday, lay low when i am out, not put on my watch, not wear my good clothes, watch my back at every turn, go only to certain places. Well that is no kind of life for anyone to have to life. Maybe someone might say its the price you pay living as a expat in PI. Still doe not make it right, and by hell I am not going to do it. Especially a Kentucky Boy who never had to deal with that type of life. @ Allen, you are right,if you live by the sword, expect to die by the sword. No the system does not work, and I wish every dam gun in the world, except for military was destroyed. But facts is its not that way. So until they find a way to do that, i am going to life my life as best I can, and hope my sword is bigger and faster than the other mans. That is really the only choice I have, cause i am too old and fat to run, and I do not take kindly to the thought of just holding my arms up and letting someone take my life without a fight….

My view is you don’t have to be completely invisible all you need to do is ensure people don’t see the amount of cash you have, lots of philippino have lots of cash they don’t make it obvious that they are loaded they play Mr. average, also the big thing is don’t carry cash, carry a few thousand in case someone does hold you up so they get something and its not worth fighting over it, or them killing you over. The same can be said in most countries that if you flaunt your money them some scum bag will try to take it from you, the fact that wealth here is a lowers relative term doesn’t change that fact be careful take a few general percussions and you will be fine. That’s my thoughts but hell if they find me dead in a gutter having been robbed then you will al know I was wrong ha-ha!

Oh well if that is what it is, i do not have to worry. I have nothing to flaunt, and if they hold me up, they probably kill me for only have 75 peso. lol ha ha ha ha ha…

that was my point on being invisible.. not saying sit in the background but simply nothing your doing is apparent. Nothing to draw attention e.g. owning half the town makes it obvious your rich.. I noticed an expat post “his projects” on a forum the other day as his.. but it is infact part of a very wealthy family business that own large parts of Minglanilla for sure I wouldn’t be branding something else as mine as it draws no positive purpose. We went out for dinner a few months back and our Pinoy friends generally wear chains either gold or silver so I wore mine at which point everyone got worried on being robbed ok its not one of the fine ones its a big chunk of gold but at the same time being white draw just as much attention as owning an expensive chain.
BUT i would also say I don’t wear jewellery normally and i definitly wouldnt wear any on a jeepy or sit there texting people and its not because im a foreigner its because the jeepy’s along the route from Pardo to Cebu city have had more than their fair share of hold ups recently.

Another reason I am not flash with the cash is I think its unappropriate to sit pretty while others are scraping by. Not because im on a moral high ground but simply I would rather be friends with people than them think that I am better than them and they become to ashamed to talk to me.
Nope not arrogant either I notice things change here depending what I am wearing. Prime example is Citi hardware I generally go on my scooter wearing basketball top and shorts because im tiling or doing some other work. They all know me by name in there and always approach me.
I was at a meeting a couple of weeks back so my clothing was very smart as well as having jewellery. I went to the store and everyone disappeared looking busy.
