6 alleged vote buyers nabbed in Bulacan, Sorsogon – Philippines election

MANILA, Philippines – Six people, including a barangay councilman, have been arrested for alleged vote buying in Bulacan and Sorsogon provinces, police said Monday.

Police said 4 suspects identified as barangay councilman Gregorio Altoveros, Jimmy Marquez, Arlino Macapinig and Arnel Ramirez were caught in the act of distributing money to voters in Barangay bagbaguin, Meycauyan, Bulacan.

Seized from them were one bag with ID cards of Change Meycauayan Movement, cash in P100 denominations amounting to P7,300; P6,000 in P20 denomination; P150,000  in P500 denomination, P40,000 in P100 denomination.

Police also arrested Nelson Balbin and Simeon Hermo, alleged supporters of a candidate for councilor in Bulusan town, Sorsogon.

Seized from the 2 suspects were 513 pieces of sample ballots each stapled with P20 bills.

The suspects have been detained in Meycauayan and Bulusan police stations while charges for violating the Omnibus Election Code are being readied against them.
